    Maximize Your Weight Loss with these Tips!


    Find a partner. Make it fun. Lose Weight together.

    Exercise each day for 20 minutes to speed your body's fat burning ability. Do an activity you enjoy such as walking, bicycling, dancing, swimming or any other activity that raises your heart rate for at least 20 minutes. If you do not already exercise on a regular basis, begin slowly. Daily exercise will enhance your weight loss, raise your metabolism, increase your energy level and give you an incredible sense of well-being.

    Drink plenty of water! To discover the amount of water that is right for you, divide your body weight in half and drink that number in ounces of water. For example, a 180 lb. person would drink 90 oz. of water each day, or a little over 11 8-oz. glasses. Increase your water slowly until you reach the ideal amount for you.

  • Protein Portion
    Use the palm of your hand to determine your protein portion. It should be approximately the size and thickness of the palm of your hand.
    Choose one of the following:
    Lean beef
    Firm tofu
    Skinless chicken breast
    Soy burger patty
    Baked fish
    Egg whites
    Skinless turkey breast

    ½ palm size of reduced fat cheese

    Cottage cheese

    Carbohydrate Portion
    Your carbohydrate portion should be the size of your hand when you make a fist. Starchy carbohydrate foods and fruits will be the size of one tight fist. If you eat vegetables as your carbohydrate, which is recommended for fastest weight loss, your portion will be the size of two loose fists.
    Choose a one fist size serving of one of the following:
    Any type of beans, corn, rice or pasta
    Fruit or fruit juice
    Baked potato or sweet potato
    Corn or flour tortillas
    Whole wheat bread or bagel

    Or a two fist size serving of any vegetable


    Fat Portion
    Use your hand to determine the correct fat portion.
    Choose from the following:
    Canola, olive or soybean oil - the size of your thumb from the first joint to the end
    Almond butter, peanut butter, tahini, guacamole, light mayonnaise, butter or light cream cheese - the size of a circle when you join your thumb and first finger like an "OK" sign
    Nuts or olives - one small handful

    Snacks
    Choose one-half of a portion from each category.
    For example:
    1/2 apple with 1/2 portion peanut butter and ¼ palm size reduced fat cheese
    ½ palm size tuna with 1/2 portion light mayo and 1 slice whole wheat toast
    ½ palm size cottage cheese with 1/2 portion berries and 1/2 portion almonds
    Garden salad with large sprinkle of fat-free cheese and 1/2 portion olive oil with vinegar

    Freebies
    Romaine or iceberg lettuce
    Celery
    Spinach
    Cucumber
    Green, yellow or red peppers

    Mushrooms

    Alfalfa sprouts
    Onions
    Broccoli
    Yellow squash
    Cabbage
    Zucchini
